It is very exciting to know what sociology is. Sociology is a subject about which people are less aware. Still, We learn about sociology in our childhood, implicitly. As we live in a society, as we born, we learn about society naturally or automatically. But the knowledge, we get automatically, can be both beneficial and harmful.
When we start studying sociology, as it is about society and social relationships, we don't find it too difficult to understand. But as we have already developed a viewpoint towards society or things, it becomes problematic while studying sociology. We have to unlearn and re-learn many things, that we know already.
By doing this unlearning process, we can develop, a new viewpoint, that we need to understand society. Even though, there is no ideal viewpoint, which will be completely unbiased and impartial. It is necessary to use common sense to see things in whole reality.

As we locate positions or locations on a geographical map, we can locate ourselves on a social map. Our age, family, income, gender, caste, and religion all these things affect our position on the social map.
Sociology is not just about locating yourself on a social map. It can help us understand the connection between personal problems that we face in our life and issues faced by society. All the problems prevalent in our society have connections to problems faced by us in our personal life.
What we learn about society automatically, gives us one social map about our identity. To understand society from various perspectives, we need to know how to draw various social maps. Sociology helps us to draw these various social maps.
