 What is sociology and all that you should know



      It is very exciting to know what sociology is. Sociology is a subject about which people are less aware. Still, We learn about sociology in our childhood, implicitly. As we live in a society, as we born, we learn about society naturally or automatically. But the knowledge, we get automatically, can be both beneficial and harmful.

                When we start studying sociology, as it is about society and social relationships, we don't find it too difficult to understand. But as we have already developed a viewpoint towards society or things, it becomes problematic while studying sociology. We have to unlearn and re-learn many things, that we know already.

              By doing this unlearning process, we can develop, a new viewpoint, that we need to understand society. Even though, there is no ideal viewpoint, which will be completely unbiased and impartial. It is necessary to use common sense to see things in whole reality.

             Sociology teaches us, to see society through various viewpoints. From these viewpoints, we can speculate about how society could be. As we locate positions or locations on a geographical map, we can locate ourselves on a social map. Our age, family, income, gender, caste, and religion all these things affect our position on the social map.

           Sociology is not just about locating yourself on a social map. It can help us understand the connection between personal problems that we face in our life and issues faced by society. All the problems prevalent in our society have connections to problems faced by us in our personal life.

      What we learn about society automatically, gives us one social map about our identity. To understand society from various perspectives, we need to know how to draw various social maps. Sociology helps us to draw these various social maps.

                           Sociology is also a study of the social causes and consequences of human behavior. We know that all type of human behavior is social, hence sociology has a very wide scope. Sociology includes a study of intimate families as well as criminal groups.
                 It includes a study of religious practices as well as people's movements. It also includes a study of various cultures as well as of various divisions of society. Sociology can help solve many problems that people face individually as well as collectively as a society.
                 Sociologist study social structures which existed in past and how they are changing in present. Since the scope of sociology is a very wide one, it can help solve problems in other disciplines as well.For.e.g.economics,politics etc.
            Sociologists identify and study patterns related to contemporary social issues. Sociologist can come across new patterns and changes in society which have existed in past.
               Thus, sociology is all about the systematic study of society and social interaction.

Importance of Sociology

            Sociology is a discipline through which a truly scientific study of society is possible. Prior to the emergence of sociology, the study of society was unscientific and had no central role.
              The study of sociology is particularly analytical and hence it is helpful to analyze society with a logical approach. Even sociology is considered the best approach to all the social sciences. Because sociology can help to understand and solve many problems in the present.
             The scientific knowledge of society is necessary to achieve progress in various fields. This knowledge is provided by sociology. Sociology is helpful in knowing the complex relationship between society and individuals.
             It also helps to know why a human is a social animal. The knowledge about society is helpful in leading a more effective social life.
Sociology helps an individual to understand his capabilities, talents, and limitations.
           All social institutions are emerged to serve an individual, by studying sociology, we can understand how these social institutions impact an individual.
         We can understand how we should improve or change these social institutions to serve an individual better. Sociology can help improve the efficiency of these social institutions and also pretend about their relevance in changing human life.
           As human life goes through various transformations .it is necessary to study, how social institutions change according to it. As we know already, society is a complex phenomenon. We cannot solve many problems existing in society without the help of sociology.
           We cannot organize society according to the way, we want without studying it through sociology. We must know the mechanism and construction of society in order to mend it.
          We know that with effective social planning, we can achieve greater progress. This effective planning is possible through the deep study of sociology.
